I. Children Academic Literacy Programs
A solid education is foundational to lifting children out of poverty and provide hope for the future in lives. The way we experience education can be different, but the fact remains that education is vital to the future potential of our young generation. Our children sponsorship program is lifting children out of poverty and giving them hope for a better future. With our international development operations, we porch great partnerships with local communities and religious organizations to empower the lives of families to get their children to school and provide them with the education opportunities. Our children literacy program is categorized two pillars of child development and education literacy such as Vulnerable Refugees Students Scholarship and Under the Tree School.
⦁ Vulnerable Refugees’ Students Scholarship
The Vulnerable Student’s Scholarship provides the scholarship opportunities in easing the financial burden for high school and university students. The Vulnerable Students Scholarship Project is the first and the most impactful project launched by the Komkan internationally in Gambella. The first three students started their high school in September 2018, and they’ve successfully started their university journey. The project is the most successful and one of the important. The Komkan’s programs supporting vulnerable students with financial assistance to continue their education.
The program empowers students’ academic journey and provide ongoing emotional support surviving the genocide and atrocities from the South Sudanese civil war. All our students have expressed their gratitude for the scholarship, which provided them with educational opportunities, and hence, this installed hopes and dreams for their future.
⦁ Under the Tree Project (Komkan Royal Academy)
The Under the tree project provide education opportunity to the children living below the poverty line. This education project supports high school and university students by providing hope for local citizens and refugees children in Gambella town and surrounding refugees camps. Komkan’s aspiration to educate children mission and passion in working with kids through the under the tree classes. Our mission to educate children is our fundamental value of promoting community development and peacebuilding.


II. Vocational Educational Programs


⦁ Basic Computer Training
The computer literacy project operates freely in the city and is one of the highest programs in demand due to the computer illiteracy rate in Gambella Region of Ethiopia. This program is a popular demand since many professions with international NGOs and Ethiopian government required computer skills. We offer computer lessons for young adults, college students, business managers, government employees, and individuals who working to change their careers. This basic computing skills, including identifying computer components, using e-mail, watching streaming platforms, and browsing the internet. Students also learn how to create, save, and print documents from their computers. This course includes nearly two hours of videos and hands-on exercises tailored to seniors through each lesson.
This computer training program is limited to only twenty-five students due to the limitations of space since there are only three computers for twenty-five students. Therefore, we have thirty students on the waitlist.
⦁ Basic Adult Education (English Language Literacy)
South Sudan and Gambella, Ethiopia have the highest illiteracy rates in the world due to decades of conflict and under-investment in education. The adult literacy program provides an educational opportunity that address the community needs, priorities and experiences, considering the low literacy rates in South Sudan due to the past 21 years of civil war. The civil war left the majority of the population less literate and the program reduces illiteracy rates in communities.
This adult education program acts as an entry point into literacy program which builds on communities’ peacebuilding experiences and economic development knowledge. The aim of the adult literacy program enables the beneficiaries to better understand their situation and be engaged in all aspects of development where literacy and numeracy is required, in order to increase their self-esteem, become self-reliant and gain control over their own lives and situations. This adult literacy program has embodied various components including civic education, peace building and conflict resolution / mediation.




⦁ Agriculture and Farming Project
Komkan provides agriculture and farming education to the populations around Gambella and promotes the food production in the region. This project creates awareness in the Gambella about farming and agriculture whereby it increases community income generating skills with business spirit and motivation for community members to start their own farms. The agriculture and farming education project enhance the community understand of addressing the food shortage in the region and increased food security.
⦁ Finance Literacy and Entrepreneurship Training
The financial literacy and entrepreneurial training focus on empowering women to sustain their lives through the provision of unlimited business opportunities and resources capital. Women always face multiple challenges that are putting immense pressure on communities, achieving gender equality is more vital than ever. Komkan ensures women and girls have the equal opportunities across all aspects of life and access to securing prosperity, fair economies, and a healthy planet for future generations.
Women’s financial empowerment program is designed to empower women to take control of their financial futures because women in low-income countries faces particularly daunting financial challenges during occurrent of civil war including sending their kids off to schools, and other changes to their own or their family’s financial circumstances. Komkan aims to support women to economically invest in life with confidence and obtain success to specifically tailored education towards financial investment and resources.


III. Sports Programs (Newland Soccer Club)
Komkan understand the important of community building through the sports and offers sports programs for youth in Gambella through a partnership with the Gambella University particularly soccer program. Our organization envisioned to provide various sports opportunities in order to have something for everyone, but we offer only soccer program due to the limited resources.
